But like you, its not really up to it unfortunately. Personally I had faint hopes for that even if the core of BF2042 would be a disaster then I could still have some long-lasting fun with the classic BF games in the Portal. Too few resources available, spread too thin to handle too many widespread issues across the full specter of the BF2042 game package. And that is obviously not working so well as it could have, as the core game of BF2042 have so far drawn most of the HC capacity at EA/DICE required to do the required adjustments in agile fashion right in the first days and weeks after the game launched to the market. And all having to rely on that the latest version of the Frostbite engine still will support them straight out of the box by using somewhat similar baseline parameters as 10-15 years ago. All while what we got here now in the BF2042 Portal is the maps, vehicles and weapons, but all thrown into the deep with no properly finetuning of their parameters.
The weapons and vehicles all were cared for down to the tiniest detail and their related game mechanics with damage effect, ranges, bullet speed, drop over range, ttk, etc all got massaged to perfection during their many many months of live gaming cycles. The sounds and lightnings went through detailed individual designs. So again a lot of compromises vs getting it really optimally tuned for the specific game genre demands for like Battlefield.Īlso for the classic games we have now in the Portal, think about all the true and real love that the developers put into the originals back when they were made! The maps took many many months just to make one of them. So over the years it has now become a patchwork of very different add-ons and compromises for it still to somehow serve various game mechanics like BF, FIFA, Need for Speed, Madden NFL and Plants vs Zombies. Also because its the same baseline engine that EA started to utilize also across other game genres, which not all are actually in the same fields of dynamics, mechanical constructs and motions.
Think we here have to point towards the Frostbite engine which these days probably is beyond its peak in many respects. the BF3 and BFBC2 games I am very familiar with in their originals are far away for providing the same depths and fun in the BF2042 Portal versions. Great points you make there portal gaming experience is indeed a superb window of observations why potentially also the core game of BF2042 is still in a painful state.
